Lacrosse lovers, the wait is over; the Saskatchewan Rush are back! Their Home Opener is this Saturday, Dec. 14th, and I have everything you need to know for a Rush game!

Whether you’re a seasoned fan or a first-timer, here’s your ultimate guide to making the most of a Rush game day!

Gear Up in Style

The Saskatchewan Rush just had a major rebrand last year, and their new logo and jerseys are AMAZING! The new logo represents a new era of Rush lacrosse, and most importantly it reflects on Saskatchewan and Treaty Six Territory. Be sure to get your merch and show off your Rush pride by visiting the FEZ before a Rush game or the Rush Team Store at SaskTel Centre. They have so much great merchandise, like jerseys, scarves, and hats. Dressing the part amps up the energy and makes you feel like part of the action!

Arrive Early

Doors at SaskTel Centre typically open an hour before the game. Plan to arrive earlier as it gives you time to find parking, watch the team warm up (maybe even get a lacrosse ball!), soak in the pre-game atmosphere, and snag a photo with the Rush mascot, Rowdy, and the cheerleaders! You can also grab a drink or some food before the game starts! The 016 Lounge is open before every home game that will have live music, cornhole, and drinks!

Atmosphere

The Rush Games are like no other; the atmosphere is SO fun and electrifying! From the music to the fans, it is a riot for everyone! The Rush team does a great job with engaging commentary (sometimes they even bring in a guest celebrity host), interviews, and fun on the jumbotron during breaks; make sure you are watching, though, because you never know who you might see on it!

This year, the Rush has exciting new things, like tattoos! Yes, you read that right. Saskatoon’s Headrush Tattoos will be set up every home game so that super fans can get a Rush tattoo and, for the littles, a temporary tattoo! The games will also be serving Really ‘Effin Good Bison Burgers at the Classics Concession at the top of section V, and because it was a huge hit last year on St. Patrick’s Day, they will be serving green beer at every home game! Also, be sure to follow their socials, as EVERY game is a theme night, and dressing up is encouraged! Some theme nights they have done are Super Hero, Las Vegas, Western and more!

Lacrosse 101

If you’re new to box lacrosse, you’ll catch on quickly—it’s easy to get drawn in. The fast-paced action brings a hockey-like feel with its own unique spin. With plenty of goals, impressive saves, and big plays, there’s always something to keep your attention. Each game consists of four fifteen-minute quarters. Each team has five players and a goaltender on the floor during the game. The players rotate on and off the floor in shifts, similar to ice hockey. Trust me, it won’t take long for you to get the hang of the game!

Here’s What Happens When Rush Scores!

Okay, if there is anything I can leave you with from this blog, this must be it!! You are probably thinking, don’t we clap and cheer? Well, yes, you aren’t wrong, but there is something else you need to do. If you have seen the movie Wolf of Wall Street, there is a cameo that Mathew McConaughey does, where he hums and pounds his chest. Rush Nation has picked this up as a tradition since their first season, and when the Rush score, everyone cheers and screams, fans jump to their feet, and the song plays while you hum, cheer, and pound your chest! It is such a fun moment for everyone, including the kids! I usually hit my chest so hard because of the adrenaline, but it is worth it! Now you know, so no excuses for when they score!

After the Game

For those with kids (and any super fans), stick around because they host autograph sessions after some games. Watch their social media for any information around this!

For those who want to keep the partying going, head downtown (with a safe ride) to enjoy some late-night eats and drinks. Check out Cohens Beer, Shelter Brewing Company or Parlor for a cocktail!

If you are coming into the city for the game, one great hotel option is Comfort Suites Saskatoon. This hotel is literally in the same parking lot, and you can walk right over! The Travelodge is great for those bringing the kids and is a close option, or the Super 8 East, which is just a 5-minute drive to SaskTel Centre!

I hope you have a great experience and a bunch of fun at your next Rush game! This is such a great outing. Check out their full schedule here, and remember, GO RUSH GO!
