During Buffalo’s bitter winters, those experiencing homelessness are left vulnerable to harsh winds and freezing-cold temperatures. Beyond being uncomfortable, long-term exposure to the cold can present serious health issues. Code Blue, the City of Buffalo’s emergency weather plan, provides shelter, transportation and hot meals to the homeless population when the weather hits below 15-degrees.
As a standing partner with Code Blue, Rich’s frequently provides the shelters around the area with donations. This winter, a group of associates at Rich’s World Headquarters got together to sew together blankets to provide to the homeless. When weather conditions prompt a “Code Blue,” these blankets will be distributed through the Buffalo City Mission to keep those in need warm.
“We’re proud to have a long-standing partnership with The Code Blue Coalition. They take a holistic look at how we can assist the homeless population during the winter months, and they’re giving them what might be the only hot meal they have all day, and connecting them with counseling centers and agencies that help them find permanent housing solutions,” explained Howard Rich, VP of Corporate Relations. “And that’s really incredible.”
